NOW: Father's Day

Father's Day came a little early this year.  On Saturday, mrs. mil10 and ek made mini "grills" with glowing embers and hot dogs made with brownies, icing, and hot tamale candy!

Today started a little later than the average Sunday morning.  Since we went to Saturday night church last night, we decided we would sleep in and make it just in time for Sunday School.

Before heading out for our usual Sunday morning stop at the doughnut shop, EK and mrs. mil10 presented mr. mil10 with gifts (Nike + iPod Sport Kit, picture frame, and a book).  After church, we went out to eat with Peeps, Meems, and Modie.

Later that afternoon we went out for a matinée viewing of Prince of Persia.  It was the second time for EK and mr. mil10, but the first time for mrs. mil10 to see the movie.

All in all, it was a fun day with family!

NOW: Eating Out

The setting was a peaceful as it looks. 

Tonight we had the pleasure of meeting a few friends from church at a restaurant that was new to us.  It specialized in seafood and even had an area for fishing. 

Before everyone arrived the mil10s kicked back and sat in rocking chairs on the oversized covered porch.  Even though the temperature was nearly 100 degrees, it was still very nice and comfortable.

As an appetizer we enjoyed beans, corn fritters (more like cornbread than the corn nuggets I was hoping for), and a little tomato relish. mr. mil10 and EK shared the crab legs and fried shrimp meal.  mrs. mil10 ordered the pulled pork served on a toasted, buttered bun.  Good food with good company makes for a great night!

After eating EK was eager to fish.  A friend helped EK with baiting and releasing the fish he caught.  In all, he caught ten.  We think one of the fish was actually the same fish caught twice, but we are still going to call it ten!

BIG: Small World

EK had a project for his Awana class at church.  We learned about the Everett family through a mutual friend at HTBC.  It may be a BIG planet, but it is a small world!  Thank you to the missionaries that are spreading the Good Word!

BIG: BMX Bike Winner

Today we attended our church's Extreme Easter BMX Event.  We knew to expect a bike show and an opportunity to win one of twenty-six BMX bikes.  On our way there we talked up the likelihood that we would not win anything, but that we would still have a good time and enjoy the show.

When we visited the registration table, we were each given a bag containing a number of items, but EK was interested in finding his key.  Since we each had one, we had three chances to unlock a bike and win it. 

Immediately mr. mil10 noticed that two of our keys were blanks.  There was no jagged edge alongside these two keys.  However, the other key did have a jagged edge.  Would this be a bad key or could this possibly be a key that would unlock one of the bikes?  With EK was the key turner it did not take long to find out.  On the first bike he came to he tried one of the blanks.  No surprises here--the lock did not open.  Next he tried the key with a jagged edge.  Winner!

Immediately EK wanted to jump on and take the new bike through the parking lot.  The seat was really too high, but EK managed to find his balance and started moving.  Since this was a BMX bike, no one really thought about the brakes.  EK's bike at home stops when you move the peddles backwards.  This bike stops when you use the hand brakes on the handlebars.  Unfortunately for EK, he found out how to stop the bike by running into a dad, a toddler, and a stroller.  CRASH!  EK was as upset as the toddler that was now flat on the ground.  Oops!  I guess we'll have to work on the whole brake thing.

Family Fun Night

Tonight at church mr. mil10 and EK were asked to participate in Family Fun Night. Five other parent/child teams competed in a Newlywed kind of game, where team members answered questions about the other while they were out of the room.

I knew we were headed for trouble when we were assigned to Team F. Immediately EK said "F is for failure."

The picture of our scoreboard shows an X for every time our answers did not match. Hey, fourth place out of six teams isn't too bad. Is it?

Cute Cupid Cake

Just before Valentine's our church sponsors an annual child/adult event called "Baking with a Buddy."  Last year we made a mailbox cake.  This year Edie found another great cake idea.  It was actually a cupcake design that we enlarged for a round cake.  The design won EK's approval.

This year we had several "buddies" to work on the cake.  Peeps always helps, but this year a friend from church joined us in the project as well.  We brought our cake and were soon ready with all of the materials to decorate.  EK and Sydney worked with Peeps to come up with a method for making and attaching the wings while JMM began the icing.  EK and Sydney took care of the hair with Rice Krispies cereal.  A few touches later and Cupid was ready to give away his heart!

Awana Grand Prix

Tonight was the annual racing event at church. Although our car never came in higher than second place in any heat, EK says he had a great time.
It is fun seeing all of the different designs that people come up with. Everything from a school bus to lipstick. Last year we created a car that looked like a pirte ship. Go figure! This year EK wanted a basic car with fire. Hobby Lobby's fire decals did the trick.

Baking with a Buddy

Tonight at HTBC we had our annual Baking with a Buddy. This is an event for Dads, Granddads, and children to have a cake baking and decorating contest. The first year of the contest JMM and EK created a treasure chest cake. Last year with help from Peeps, they created a three layer heart cake with M&Ms. This year we were running low on ideas, so with a little help from our dear friend The Baking Redhead we were given some inspiration.

This years All Around Prize Winner was a cake titled "Love Letters." We used a pound cake mix with some snickers added into it for a little extra kick. The pound cake was turned into a mailbox. The letters were made from Pop-Tarts that were iced, addressed, and stamped with a heart.

Thanks for the idea, Baking Redhead. Great job, JMM, EK, and Peeps! I can't wait to see what ya'll create next year.
